Anjali Raj thecolourmaniac children's book illustrator cute cat merch

Hello! This is Anjali here, an Indian illustrator who is self taught, paving my way into the creative world one day at a time.
The gist of creating this website in the words of Phoebe Buffay is,
"If you want to receive emails about my upcoming shows, then please give me money so I can buy a computer."

Jokes apart, thecolourmaniac is my brain child which came into existence with the tremendous
love and encouragement from my lovely friends and family.
I've decided to break out of my shell and create a website inorder to make it easier for you to commission artworks from me.

Anywho, I am very excited to listen to your stories and make cutesy art out of it.
Let's put an end to the waiting and wondering already, take a leap of faith with me!

Childhood drawings about me children's book illustrator

How it all started

I was probably 3 or 4 years old when I first held a pen and started scribbling away. I still remember the day during my teen years, when I rediscovered those papers filled with gibberish. Appa had saved each and every one of them, right from worn out papers, to plain sheets with stick figures to newspaper columns in which I coloured.

I was always the kid who loved art, there are several pictures of me surrounded by sketch pens and colour pencils, but sadly I lost touch with that artistic side of my brain as academics swept up most of my time. Of course I kept drawing occasionally here and there over the years for birthdays or special events, but I had completely lost the child in me who sat and drew for hours and hours.

The day I found my old drawings, I smiled while going through the ruffled papers as I remembered how much I loved drawing as a kid, and the pages marked with a "V.good", "10/10" and my dad signing as the "teacher" made me giggle. Now when I look back, I realise he has always been my cheerleader when it came to art, be it absolute gibberish I've written or bizarre colour schemes on newspapers, to my neat paintings, he has always been my No.1 cheerleader.

So today, on the 19th of March, it seemed more than accurate to launch the next step of my artistic journey on his birthday.
So here's presenting to you my own personal website and portfolio - thecolourmaniac.
